AUSTIN, December, 2017 – This is the time of year when Texans are at their best – being generous during the holidays. Kiester Ciccone Bollier LLP – KCB Law Firm encourages last-minute shoppers to give the gift of charity to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area and Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas, two nonprofits that receive regular contributions from the firm.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area provides after school activities and facilities for thousands of young Central Texans, especially those who need it most, between the ages of 6 and 18. Travis and Bastrop counties have 28 local Boys & Girls Clubs and four outreach programs serving more than 7,100 registered members – including more than 2,000 every day.

“This is the time of year to be more charitable – when we show extra gratitude for our blessings,” says Kirt Kiester, a civil attorney. “We support these and many other charities all year long, but they tell us extra donations are needed during the holidays when there’s a higher demand for services. The Boys & Girls Club is as good as it gets, when you think of programs that truly impact young people’s lives.”

Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas was founded in 1981 by Austin attorneys concerned by inequity in the civil legal system. Because legal services are expensive, many VLS clients can’t afford the help they need, even for essential issues like divorce, child custody, consumer fraud, and housing. The nonprofit’s founders envisioned volunteer attorneys giving back to their community through donations of time and legal expertise. In 2016, the organization successfully advised or litigated more than 2,700 cases, donated more than $4 million in legal services, and volunteered 15,000 hours.

“Volunteer Legal Services is personal for me because I’m a veteran,” says Tony Ciccone, an attorney partner in the firm. “Many of these veterans need life-changing legal advice when they’re going through a hard time in life, but they can’t afford an attorney or don’t know someone they trust. I think anyone who gets involved with VLS this time of year will soon become a frequent supporter throughout the year.”

“These organizations need our time and financial contributions,” says Leslie Bollier, family law attorney. “Austinites have a reputation for being exceptionally generous with their time, but less generous with their money. We hope Central Texans looking for a way to give back will consider supporting Boys & Girls Clubs and Veteran Legal Services – or any local nonprofit – with contributions of time and funding.”

Kiester Ciccone Bollier LLP – KCB Law Firm is also a proud supporter of the Austin Bar Association, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, The Junior League of Austin, American Civil Liberties Union, U.S. Green Building Council, National Trust for Historic Preservation, World Wildlife Fund, Smithsonian, The Nature Conservancy, National Park Foundation, Mack Jack & McConaughey, and YMCA of Austin.
